How to photograph a sunset at Watergate Bay

with Ben Battell

Illuminated sky. Golden light. Glistening reflections. As the sun sets on another day in the Bay, another opportunity to capture the perfect shot arises. “Watergate Bay is one of my favorite locations to watch the sunset,” says Cornwall-based filmmaker, photographer and founder of Salt & Gorse, Ben Battell.

Watch below as Ben reveals his top tips for shooting a Watergate Bay sunset, from the spots to know (hint: there’s a sea cave down on the beach that creates a striking natural frame) to the unexpected angles and compositions to try for a fresh take on this timeless subject.

Whether turning your iPhone upside down to get closer to the shimmering surface or silhouetting clifftop wildflowers against the setting sun, discover Ben’s professional pointers for capturing shots that go beyond “what you see on everyone else's Instagram feeds”.
