Banned dog breeds policy

We are unable to accept a banned dog breed as detailed by the UK government under the Dangerous Dog Act 1991. This is due to the large amount of children and other dogs which stay at the hotel. The consideration and peace of mind for our guests and team is our priority.

We can allow guests with a banned dog breed to stay in our village apartments on a self-catering basis but the dog will not be allowed to be left unattended or in the hotel public areas including The Living Space dining room for breakfast.

The following regulations must be adhered to:

Your dog must be:

  • Neutered

  • Fitted with a microchip

  • Kept on a 1m lead and muzzled at all times when in public around Watergate Bay Hotel site

  • Kept in a secure place so it cannot escape

  • The dog-to-handler ratio is 1:1 at all times.

As the owner, you must:

  • Have insurance against your dog injuring other people

  • A copy of the Public Liability insurance certificate for the dog is obtained and provided to us before the stay.

  • The dog is registered with The Index of Exempted Dogs (IED) and a copy of the life certificate is obtained and provided to us before the stay.

  • Be aged over 16

The following breeds have been banned by the UK government under the Dangerous Dog Act 1991:

  • Pit Bull Terrier

  • Japanese Tosa

  • Dogo Argentino

  • Fila Brasileiro

  • XL Bully (added to the list on December 31, 2023)
