Watergate Bay beach cleans

We are very fortunate to have a beautiful beach as our setting, and we are committed to look after it so that it remains beautiful for generations to come.

Why we do it

Unfortunately, marine litter has doubled in the last 15 years and this waste is mostly made up of plastics and discarded fishing ropes. This can cause marine animals to become entangled and when ingested can be extremely harmful to marine life.

Rather than see this litter washed back out to sea, we are determined to organise as many beach cleans as we can. Every day our team spend some time cleaning the beach. We organise staff beach cleans every season and four times a year we work with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) to run a public beach clean. On top of that we often collaborate with other organisations such as Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) on their beach cleans.

We believe beach cleans are an integral part of bringing together groups of people, be it staff or the local community to share and understand our marine environments. If you are interested in joining us on our public beach clean keep an eye on this page. You can also join us on Facebook or Twitter for announcements.

Wellbeing benefits of the sea

Everyone loves the beach, but there’s a growing body of evidence to suggest that it’s more than just a nice place to be - it could actually be vital for your health.
